As Singh Pahal LLC has taken on service work for landowners beyond our own orchard, we have learned to be deliberate about which properties we bring into our operation. Growth is not just a matter of saying yes to more acreage. It is a matter of taking on orchards we can actually serve well, given our crew, our equipment, and our season.
Before we agree to manage or support a property, we walk it. We look at tree age and variety, irrigation infrastructure and its condition, access for equipment, and the history of the block as best we can reconstruct it from the owner and from what the trees themselves show us. An orchard with deferred maintenance is not necessarily a bad fit, but it changes what the first season with us looks like, and we want that conversation to happen before a contract, not after planting season starts.
This selectivity is part of how we protect the reputation we are building. A landowner who trusts us with their orchard is trusting us with a multi-year asset, not a single season. We would rather grow slower and keep that trust than take on more acreage than we can actually farm well.
